The Higher Population Council organized today Tuesday, in cooperation with the Arab Population and Development Council a training course on strengthening the capacity of National Population Councils and Committees in the Arab world / Results-oriented Management, with the participation of the members of the Arab Population and Development Council.
The Higher Population Council’s Assistant Secretary General Rania Al-Abadi, speaking at the opening of the session on behalf of the Secretary-General of the Council Dr. Abla Amawi, confirmed that the training programme, which will be held over two stages; the first during the period between 15-17/6/2021, and the second will take place by the end of September of this year, comes within the framework of the work of the Higher Population Council, to transfer expertise and knowledge among States with similar technical needs, and on the basis of the manual "Strengthening the Capacity of National Councils and Committees for Population Management and Results-based Management," prepared by the Population Policy Department of the Arab Council for Population and Development in cooperation with the Higher Council for Population.
She also indicated that through the training programme, a system of strategic planning will be adopted through results-oriented management of national population councils and committees in the Arab world or in their governance. This is to contribute in developing a road map that enables them to prioritize population issues, focus on their energies and resources and ensure that staff and officials are working towards common goals, through a common agreement on desired outcomes, and assess their adaptation to a changing environment.
She added that the training programme will contribute to joint strategic planning within an integrated methodology of results-based management in population and development issues, and which in its turn will contribute in aiding national population councils and committees in the Arab world or those who govern them in finding a general framework for the next stages, improving the policy environment, ensuring social protection, achieving sustainable development, empowering women and gender equality and achieving the well-being of the population.
It should be indicated that since the establishment of the Arab Council for Population and Development in 2019, it has been working on establishing mechanisms to support and institutionalize coordination and cooperation among Arab States in the area of all population and development issues in order to promote the integration of population issues and dynamics as an active factor in national policies, strategies and action plans and regional and national development programmes and projects. This is through preparing a unified and shared system of strategic planning for national population councils and committees based on population dynamics and which follows well-defined unified strategic planning, to contribute to their national role in supporting Governments to respond to crises, providing decision makers with well-founded policy proposals that integrate the population dimension and characteristics of different population groups into development plans, proposing solutions and recommending key development challenges facing the Arab region, the most important of which are currently crisis response plans to ensure comprehensive social protection for all groups in society.
