Professor Dr. Muhyiddin Sha'ban Tawq has had a distinguished career spanning several decades. Between 1972 and 1991, he worked in academia at institutions including the University of Jordan, the United Arab Emirates University, and the University of Wisconsin in the United States. During this time, he served as the chair of the Psychology Department and Dean of Student Affairs at the University of Jordan, as well as Dean of the College of Education at the United Arab Emirates University. Additionally, he served as the president of Philadelphia University.
From 1992 to 2000, he served as the Director of Education Program at the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), appointed by UNESCO. In this role, he managed education programs in Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, the West Bank, and Gaza. He also served as the General Manager of the Arab Cadre Company, specializing in professional development for educational staff, from 2011 to 2019, overseeing numerous training and qualification programs funded internationally by the Ministry of Education.
From 2008 to 2011, Professor Dr. Tawq served as the Commissioner-General for Human Rights at the National Center for Human Rights, working diligently to integrate human rights principles and concepts into Jordanian curricula in coordination with the Ministry of Education. Concurrently, he served as the President of the Asian-Pacific Forum for Human Rights for two years.
Professor Dr. Tawq held ministerial positions in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan's government three times, serving as Minister of Administrative Development, Minister of State for Prime Ministry Affairs, and Minister of Higher Education. He also served as an ambassador of the kingdom to several European countries and as a delegate to various United Nations organizations and bodies. While serving as ambassador to Austria, he chaired the dedicated committee for negotiating the United Nations Convention against Corruption, promoting its adoption at the United Nations General Assembly. He worked tirelessly on an international scale to establish the International Anti-Corruption Academy in Vienna, Austria, and served as a member of the Academy's Board of Trustees for six years. In recognition of his efforts in this field, the United Nations featured his image on a commemorative stamp, and he was awarded the Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani Anti-Corruption Excellence Award in 2017.
Professor Dr. Tawq has held numerous honorary positions and has been a member of various local, Arab, and international committees. He has authored ten books in the fields of education, psychology, and governance, and has produced dozens of research papers and reports.
